China Mobile Qinghai's RuralStar Plus, a smart wireless solution jointly innovated and applied by Huawei, has won the GSMA GLOMO “Best Mobile Innovation in Emerging Markets” award.
During MWC25 in Barcelona, the smart wireless RuralStar Plus solution jointly innovated and applied by China Mobile Qinghai Company and Huawei won the GSMA GLOMO “Best Emerging Markets Mobile Innovation Award”.
Located in the eastern part of the world's highest Tibetan Plateau, Qinghai Golog is a place where the extremely high altitude and poor roads make it difficult to transport large equipment; the fragile ecological environment of the plateau and the impossibility of digging into the permafrost layer limit the laying of fiber optics and other traditional network infrastructures; and the insufficient supply of utility power increases the difficulty of supplying power to the network equipment, which affects the normal operation of the base stations. A series of problems have led to difficulties in deploying traditional macro stations.
In order to promote the development of rural revitalization, China Mobile Qinghai, together with Huawei, provided the RuralStar Plus solution for the Tibetan Plateau region according to local conditions. The solution adopts “integrated base station, intelligent microwave, solar energy equipment and lithium-ion energy cabinets” for full up-pole installation, forming a “tower-free, utility-free, fiber-free” minimalist architecture. This solution makes full use of the rich local solar energy resources to quickly build a green, simple and easy-to-deploy 4G/5G network. In addition, the entire station supports remote intelligent maintenance, which reduces the number of visits to the station and effectively alleviates the problem of scarce maintenance human resources.
RuralStar Plus innovative solutions help remote areas cross the digital divide and improve the quality of life of local people. Meanwhile, it plays a huge role in plateau ecological protection and natural disaster early warning.
Direction, Vice President of Huawei's wireless network product line, said, “We are grateful to GSMA, analysts, and others for recognizing the RuralStar Plus project. The program fully demonstrates that digital inclusion has both economic value and far-reaching social significance. In the future, Huawei will help operators deepen digital inclusion with innovative technologies, promote connectivity unconnected, and contribute to building a fairer, more efficient, and more inclusive digital society.”
Mobile World Congress 2025 was held from March 3 to March 6 in Barcelona, Spain. Huawei's exhibition area is located in Hall 1H50, Fira Gran Via 1. In 2025, 5G-A commercial deployment will accelerate, and AI will help operators accelerate replanting of commerce, reshaping of infrastructure, and reconfiguration of operations and maintenance. Huawei will join hands with global operators and partners to accelerate progress toward an intelligent world.
