Recently, there are two requirements of battery single capacity ≥ 314Ah central enterprises energy storage system procurement project bid opening, worth attention.
First, on March 14, the bidding for the energy storage system procurement project of Xinjiang Huadian with a total scale of 1.5GW/6GWh was opened. The project is divided into six bidding segments, including two types of grid-constructing and grid-following technologies, and will be used in two regions of Xinjiang, Urumqi and Kashgar. Bid opening results show that a total of 57 companies participated in the project bidding, the offer range of 0.398 yuan / Wh - 0.565 yuan / Wh, the average bid price of 0.445 yuan / Wh.
Secondly, on March 18, China Huadian Group released the 2025 6GWh energy storage system frame mining winning candidate announcement. 6 enterprises shortlisted as winning candidates, respectively, for the CRRC ZHUZHOU Institute, SCETL, SUNGROW, TBEA, EAST, SAC-WORLD, 3 alternative shortlisted enterprises for the Huadian Engineering, HyperStrong, BYD. It is reported that the collection has attracted a total of 67 companies to participate in the 9 shortlisted successful candidates for the offer range of 0.458 yuan - 0.486 yuan / Wh, the average offer of 0.475 yuan / Wh. Bidding documents show that the procurement of the 2h, 4h energy storage system. It is worth mentioning that, in addition to the battery single capacity ≥ 314Ah, the two projects in the past performance of the bidders have also put forward the corresponding requirements. Bidders are required to have at least one single project capacity > 80MWh operation performance, or a single project capacity > 10MWh cumulative not less than 1GWh lithium iron phosphate electrochemical energy storage system integration equipment contract performance (at least including battery prefabricated cabin, PCS). In addition, in the bidding project of Huadian Engineering’s 2h and 4h energy storage system, the bidder is also required to have independent R&D and production capacity of at least one of the battery monomer, PCS and EMS products.
From the bidding market, since the second half of 2024, some provisions in the bidding documents of the central enterprises large storage, generally improve the qualification requirements of suppliers. In February this year, the state also introduced a relevant policy, “mandatory distribution of storage” out of the stage, the demand for energy storage will be more determined by the market mechanism, which also determines the bidding owners will be more concerned about whether the energy storage system can really play a role in long-term reliable operation. Reflected in the price, although 0.45 yuan / Wh, 0.48 yuan / Wh about the average offer is still at a low level, but the offer range has narrowed the trend. This all shows that the energy storage system procurement is from “price priority” to “quality priority”. Core, also from the second half of last year, 314Ah core frequently appeared in the central enterprises energy storage procurement project, the above two projects are no exception. It is understood that 314Ah core compared to the previous mainstream 280Ah core, capacity increase of about 12%, a single core can realize the precise capacity of 1 degree of electricity. Applied to the energy storage system, on the one hand, 314Ah large core is equivalent to the battery “to the public share”, each cell can be used to the fullest extent, to avoid waste due to the inflated rated capacity; on the other hand, the system requires a significant reduction in the number of cores, connectors and management units, which will bring about savings in materials and improve the assembly efficiency. This means that in a project of the same size, the number of battery sections connected in series and parallel can be significantly reduced, reducing system complexity and cost. From the market penetration point of view, the data show that 314Ah cells have successively completed mass production in 2023-2024, and the global penetration rate reached 40% in the year of 2024, and the capacity switching rate from 280Ah to 314Ah is more than 50%, and it is expected that the market penetration rate of 314Ah cells is expected to be increased to 70% in 2025.
