Nuts and bolts go together and without both of them you cannot produce strong equipment.  They are designed to work so that they strengthen whatever they are holding together.  The nuts are the ones with the threaded holes and they are matched with bolts that are designed to fit particular nuts.  Electrical equipment, automobiles, and spare parts are just some of the things that use nuts and bolts for fasteners.  Nuts and bolts are dimension specific and are strong and durable to ensure long life of the product that they hold together. Some of the Building Fasteners used can include Deckfast Deck Screws, Heavy Hex Bolts, Heavy Hex Screws or Stainless Cap Screws to name on a small fraction of what is available.
Different Types of Nuts and Bolts
Different projects require different grades of nuts and bolts.  Strength ratings will tell you what kind of nuts and bolts you will need.  For example, if you have a class 10.9 bolt you will need a class 10 nut to support it and to avoid stripping of the threading in the nut.  The hexagonal shape of most nuts and bolts gives them more power through granularity of angles.
You will find that there are many types of nuts and bolts including hex nuts, cap nuts, inserts, internal wrenching, knurled nuts, lugs and many more.  Each type of nuts and bolts has a different purpose that they are best suited for.  They are made from low to medium carbon steel.  They usually have minimum tensile yield strength of 420 MPa or 61 ksi.
Hex nuts are most often used for joining mechanical materials and will fasten the bolt securely.  Brass, stainless steel, galvanized chrome, and silicone bronze are some of the materials that hex nuts are made from.  Corrosion resistant materials, like stainless steel, consisting of 18% chromium and 5% nickel, aka 18-8SS, are most desirable. These are most often used for exterior conditions and in coastal regions.
Nuts and Bolts are Important
Nuts and bolts are important parts of any building or mechanical product.  If you do not choose the correct nuts and bolts for your project or you do not choose the right quality, you may find your project falling apart.  There are many types to choose from so ask an expert for advice.
